Blog Posts On the Dashboard

When you install Lively Blogs, a blog stream is automatically included on the dashboard on the right hand side. Because Lively Blogs displays regular Confluence blog posts, you might already see blog posts on the dashboard.

Disable/Enable Blog Posts On the Dashboard

Whether blog posts are included on the dashboard can be changed on the Lively Blogs Settings page in the Conflunence Administraton.

Go to: General Configuration > Lively > Blog Settings

There you can check or uncheck the option "Show featured blog posts on the dashboard".

Including Blog Posts in a custom decorator

If you customized your dashboard template (Look & Feel -> Layouts -> Global layout) and want to include the blog posts macro in a different place, you can include it in the template with:

The option "Show blog posts on the dashboard" should then bis disabled, so it doesn't get rendered twice.

Blog Posts Macro

The Lively Blog Posts macro can be included on any page and can be configured like the dashboard stream.

By default only blog posts from the current space are displayed.

Blog Posts Dashboard Macro

The Blog Lively Blog Posts Dashboard Macro has no configuration options itself, but rather uses the global configuration in the Confluence Administration under: General Configuration > Lively > Blog Settings.

Teaser images

An image included in the blog post content can be set as the teaser image for the blog stream. Just click on the image and then click "Teaser".

Only one image can be marked as "Teaser", If you mark a second one, the first one will be unmarked.

If you want do display a teaser image, that is not included in the content, but attached on the blog post, you can label it with "teaser". If you label more than one image, the first one found will be used.

Blog posts can be prioritized by adding a special label which is set by default to "important". Only users of a configurable group can set this label. Both the label and the group can be configured globally on the Lively Blogs Settings page in the Confluence Administration. You can also disable the blog post prioritization feature completely. These settings affect all macros and the stream on the dashboard.

Prioritizing a blog post means that the blog post sticks at the top of the stream for a given period of time. The period can be set with the setting "Priority time frame". There is also an option to limit the number of prioritized posts with the setting "Maximum number of prioritized posts".

There are 5 layouts that can be selected for the dashboard and for the macro, "default", "image-left", "image-right", "image-embedded" and "image-fullwidth".

The default layout displays the blog post in a speech balloon.

Image Left

The image-left layout displays the teaser image on the left side.

Image Right

The image-right layout displays the teaser image on the right side.

Image Embedded

The image-embedded layout embeds the image in the teaser text.

Image Fullwidth

The image-fullwidth layout displays the teaser image as big as possible in full width.

The categories on the blogs page can be customized.

Go to: General Configuration > Lively > Blog Categories

There you can add, delete or edit categories. A category consists of one or multiple filters by labels, authors, spaces or space categories. All filters must be entered as a comma separated list.

If a color is added, the category will be displayed on the blog posts.

Blog Stream

You can limit, filter or change the sorting of the blog stream on the dashboard and/or on the blogs overview page.

The maximum number of displayed posts and the time frame on the dashboard can be configured with the parameters "Maximum number of regular posts" and "Time frame" in the dashboard section.

Blog posts on the dashboard can be filtered by labels, authors and and spaces under the section "Featured posts". If one of these filters is used, a new category "Featured Posts" will be added to the blogs overview page.

Blog posts on the dashboard and on the blogs overview page can be sorted by the creation date, the modification date (when a blog post was edited) or by the date of the last comment.

Publish as Blog Post

With the "Publish as Blog Post" function, any page can be converted into a blog post. Go to the page actions menu (...) and click "Publish as Blog Post".

A dialog will appear where you can choose the space and if you want to move the page to the trash or keep it.
